R.E.V.I.E.W:- A SPIRITUAL NIGHT WITH MR.EAZI

Fresh from the Kano concert, I thought my weekend couldn’t get any better - it did!

“It’s your boy Eazi”- the first time I became aware of talented musician Mr. Eazi was only a few weeks ago - yes I know, I'm late! And I haven’t stopped playing his music since. When I heard Project 1957 collaborated to put on this event, 69 with Mr. Eazi, I knew straight away that this was an event not to be missed.

The night in question…

Before the performance began, the lucky 69 guests who won tickets for the intimate show resumed their positions front row of the stage. It is then when we were blessed with the beautiful soulful sounds of Tomi Agape. She opened her performance with a cover of Erykah Badu - On and On, which captured the full attention of the audience as we rocked and swayed in approval. She went on to perform her original song 'Higher', which proved she can hold her own.

After Tomi’s performance, we all stood in the private section of the Hippodrome casino in Leicester Square, and eagerly awaited the performance of Mr.Eazi. The ability to sing live with an acoustic band is not something many artists can do well, and I was quite excited to see what this widely spoken about Afrobeats artist could do.

His performance blew me away, he kept the crowd engaged from the beginning to the end with his strong vocals and catchy singing style. The intimate setting allowed him to get personal with his fans as he opened up his journey thus far; his inspirations and the history of the songs that has given him great success so far.

The highlight of the night is when he brought out fellow artist Eugy to perform their infectious collaboration Body - this was a song which almost did not get made as Mr.Eazi tells us the story of how he almost looked past Eugy, until he played the beat in his car by chance then realised the guy, Eugy who he had been sidestepping was the talented artist behind the hit which we now know as Body.

We learned about his love interests and admiration for Ghanaian girls, moving to Ghana from Nigeria to attend university; but the most important thing we learned is that he is truly a great performer who sounds even better live. I was really impressed with his ability to interact with the crowd, his confidence and humorous character aroused laughter from the audience on multiple occasions in between songs.

Mr. Eazi proclaimed it will be a spiritual event from the get go and he ended his performance in that fashion with his most notable song to date, Skin Tight. At that precise moment, he no longer needed to perform as the crowd sang word to word from beginning to end.
